  Il Theremin è uno dei primi strumenti musicali elettronici, inventato da Léon Theremin nel 1919 in Russia, e la sua particolarità è che fu il primo strumento concepito per essere suonato senza essere toccato dalle mani, ma solo con il movimento di queste intorno a 2 antenne, che controllano la frequenze e il volume del suono emesso.
  Il Theremin può essere notato in miriadi di film horror o di fantascienza, molto usato infatti in quanto l’effetto glissato/vibrato/tremolo sul suono emesso produce un effetto surreale.

  Simple Media ha prodotto un plugin VST gratuito che emula il suono di questo strumento, che gira su Windows (per Cubase, Ableton, Fruity Loops, etc.), plugin che ha chiamato Spook Keys, un nome che è un evidente omaggio alla serie Star Trek.
  Il plugin può essere controlla sia usando una tastiera MIDI oppure il mouse, forse più adatto a riprodurre lo stile con cui si suona il Theremin.
  Spook keys ha le seguenti specifiche:
  sine, sawtooth, triangle and pulse waves
  variable key in and out response
  variable LFO for vibrato and tremolo
  pan, chorus (detuning), stereo spread and glide controls
  filtered, ping-pong, stereo delay.
